- One of the best herbs to grow from seed is rocket (Eruca sativa) which can be sown directly into the soil. Succession sow for a constant supply.
- Vinca and portulaca are ideal plants for extreme heat. Other hot summer survivors are gazanias and pelargoniums.
- Keep your zonal pelargoniums nice and bushy by pinching back, especially if you have young plants. The pinching encourages more side shoots to develop.
- Water in the early morning so the leaves can dry out or install a mist irrigation system that waters the base of plants.
- Allow space between plants so that the air can circulate, especially in humid areas.
